About the project
A common treasury,
opened carefully.
The Patristic Library is an accessible reading and listening home for early Christian theological texts.
Editorial principles
We prefer complete, public-domain English editions with a traceable publication history. Ancient authorship does not by itself make a modern translation or scholarly apparatus free to reproduce. Every hosted text therefore carries edition-level attribution and a rights note.
Typography may be normalized for accessibility without silently modernizing the translator’s language. Material changes belong in a documented editorial record.
Scope
The initial collection spans the Apostolic Fathers through John of Damascus, roughly AD 70–750.
Audio
Future AI-narrated editions will be labeled as synthetic, linked to the exact text revision used, and divided into chapter-sized files with transcripts. Audio objects are designed for Cloudflare R2 delivery.
